The majority of National University’s undergraduate population has had prior college experience and transfers credits from other institutions. Retention and graduation rates for first-time, full-time undergraduate students, and now full-time, non-first time rates under Outcome Measures, are publicly available through the Integrated Postsecondary Education System (IPEDS).

A Full-year Cohort represents a group of students entering at any time during the 12-month period July 1 to June 30.

One-Year Retention is a measure of the rate at which students persist in their educational program at National University, expressed as a percentage. This is the percentage of degree seeking students from the previous academic year who are again enrolled in the current academic year. The academic year begins on July 1st and ends June 30th.

150% Graduation Rate is calculated as the total number of degree seeking completers within 150% of normal time divided by the full-year cohort.

Student Satisfaction (Noel Levitz)

The Adult Student Priorities Survey (ASPS) gathers feedback on the priorities of National University adult undergraduate and graduate students by identifying what matters and satisfaction with areas such as university support services, instructional effectiveness, academic and financial aid advising, and campus climate. ASPS asks students to respond with a level of importance and a level of satisfaction for each area thereby the calculated performance gap guides university resources and strategy that meets student expectations and needs.

Student Engagement (NSSE)

The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) collects information from first-year and senior students about the characteristics and quality of their undergraduate experience. Student engagement represents two critical features of the collegiate quality. The first is the amount of time and effort students put into their studies and other educationally purposeful activities. The second is how institutional resources, courses, and other learning opportunities facilitate student participation in activities that matter to student learning. National University utilizes NSSE response data to information institutional decisions and effective educational practices.
